NFL News & Notes: Jets, Steelers, Falcons, Rams

Here’s a look at some of the days moves that teams are considering as they begin to evaluate their rosters.

New York Jets

  • NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora reports that the Jets have signed K Nick Novak to a contract today. Novak led the United Football League in scoring with 69 points this season and should compete for the teams kicker position despite a decent year from Nick Folk.

Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Steelers offensive tackle Flozell Adams could be considering retirement following the teams loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. Adam’s 2011 contract is set to pay $5 million which is high enough for the Steelers to pass on him at that price. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians praised Adam’s play leading up to Super Bowl so ruling out a return to Pittsburgh would be premature at this point.

Atlanta Falcons

  • Pro Football Talk confirmed that the Falcons will cut S Erik Coleman in the coming days. Coleman is 28 and played in 12 games for Atlanta this season but only started one which makes his $3 million salary seem overpriced.

St Louis Rams

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Rams will release FB Mike Karney. Schefter also mentions that new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels plans to go with a lot of no-fullback sets and  plans to focus on using the spread offense more next year.
