2018 Cap Space

Jason Fitzgerald of Overthecap.com has updated the 2018ย cap space for NFL teams entering today. The top 8 team teams consist of:

  1. Browns – $117M
  2. 49ers – $116M
  3. Colts – $87M
  4. Jets – $76M
  5. Buccaneers – $66M
  6. Redskins – $59M
  7. Vikings – $57M
  8. Rams – $56M

As for the teams with the least cap space to work with, Fitzgerald has them listed as:

  1. Steelers – ($2.8M)
  2. Chiefs – ($1.8M)
  3. Dolphins – $2.5M
  4. Eagles – $11.2M
  5. Ravens – $11.5M
  6. Falcons – $11.7M
  7. Panthers – $18.1M

Cap Savings

Jason Fitzgerald put together a list of some of the largest cap savings that could come from releasing players next offseason.

Some names to keep an eye on next year include:

  1. Jaguars QB Blake Bortles – $19M
  2. Chiefs QB Alex Smith – $17M
  3. Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill – $15.2M
  4. Cardinals QB Carson Palmer – $14M
  5. Bengals QB Andy Dalton – $13.9M
  6. Bears QB Mike Glennon – $11.5M
  7. Rams DE Robert Quinn – $11.4M
  8. Packers OLB Clay Matthews – $11.4M
  9. Jets DL Muhammad Wilkerson – $11M
  10. Dolphins CB Byron Maxwell – $10M

Injured Reserve

According to Jason Fitzgerald, the teams with the most money combined on the injured reserve, non-football injury and physically unable to perform list include:

  1. Chiefs – $26.4M
  2. Dolphins – $26.2M
  3. Texans – $20.6M
  4. Ravens – $19.4M
  5. Patriots – $15.3M
  6. 49ers – $15.1M
  7. Panthers – $14M

Panthers

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) did not suffer a major injury during Sunday’s loss to the Saints, based on early indications.
  • A source tells Rapoport Benjamin appears to be “fine.”
