NFL Notes: 49ers, Jaguars, Packers, Patriots & Vikings

49ers

  • Former Dolphins OT Jonathan Martin could get a look at guard in the event that Alex Boone‘s holdout lasts into the regular season. (Bill Williamson)
  • A number of scouts believe offseason acquisition S Antoine Bethea could be a “better overall fit” for the 49ers defense than Donte Whitner, and there may not be much of a drop off this season. (Bill Williamson)

Jaguars

  • Second-year RB/WR Denard Robinson could be a “significant” part of the Jaguars’ offense this season after a strong showing during OTAs. (Michael DiRocco)
  • QB Ricky Stanzi has looked better than rookies Blake Bortles and Stephen Morris thus far and would likely be the Jaguars’ No. 2 quarterback if the season started today. (Michael DiRocco)
  • WR Ace Sanders role on offense is expected to decrease this year, but he could make up the loss of playing time by contributing as a kick returner. (Michael DiRocco)
  • S Winston Guy has taken all of the first-team reps and looks to be the leader to start at free safety as they enter training camp. (Michael DiRocco)

Packers

  • Third-round pick Richard Rodgers appears to have the “inside track” for the Packers starting tight end job. (Rob Demovsky)

Patriots

  • Fourth-round pick RB James White looks like he could be an “early factor” in the Patriots offense, especially in the passing game. (Mike Reiss)

Vikings

  • OC Norv Turner mentioned that they are focusing on finding ways to get RB Adrian Peterson the ball in space more this season. (Derek Wetmore)
