NFL Notes: Aldon Smith, 49ers, Bears, & Lions

Aldon Smith

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the one-year suspension handed down to Raiders OLB Aldon Smith was part of an agreement with the NFL in exchange for no further discipline from his August 6 arrest.

Florio mentions that Smith could have punished separately under the Personal Conduct Policy, which could resulted in a “significant” ban.

  • Bill Williamson mentions that Smith cannot be around the Raiders’ facility during his suspension and can’t sign anywhere until after it ends on Nov. 17, 2016.

49ers

  • 49ers RB Reggie Bush said he underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus, and not his ACL or MCL. (Joe Fann)

Bears

  • Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune writes that the Bears have until ext Tuesday to determine if they are going to activate first-round WR Kevin White or shut him down for the remainder of the 2015 season.
  • White is currently on the PUP list and would have be activated by Nov. 24, but Biggs considers it unlikely that we’ll see White in 2015.

Lions

Lions veteran CB Rashean Mathis (concussion, I.R.) told reporters that he’s feeling good and symptom free, but still felt his concussion was serious enough to end his season.

“I don’t think it would have looked well for the organization or on my part as a man for me to go back out there and something worse happen and then the organization and my family have to answer questions about that,” Mathis said, via Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com. “I’m not experiencing any symptoms now, or in the future, great, we made the right call. I could have technically still played, but if I would have went out there and something worse happened it would have been ‘oh wow, what have they done.’ That’s how you have to think about it and me, as a professional, that’s how I think about it.”

Mathis added that he hasn’t made any decision regarding his future.

When something like this happens, as a professional, I’d be naïve not to think about those types of things,” Mathis said. “Like I said, there’s life after football and you have to think about those things. When that time comes a decision will be made.”
