NFL Notes: Bears, Colts, Panthers

Bears

Jason La Canfora spoke to executives around the NFL who have no idea what the Bears are doing with their recent draft class.

We don’t know what the hell they were doing,” an executive tells La Canfora. “It’s all anyone is talking about. It’s really bad between [Ryan] Pace and [John] Fox. Fox is fuming about being left in the dark on the trade (for Trubisky). I don’t know anyone who likes their draft. From the first pick on, we can’t figure out what they were doing. Go back and look at how many small-school kids they took. People around the league are shocked. It’s really bad between Pace and Fox.”

Either the Bears know something no one else in the league knows, or that draft just got a lot of people fired only they don’t know it yet,” a separate exec tells La Canfora.

Colts

  • Adam Schefter reports that the Colts are parting ways with director of college scouting T.J. McCreight and others from scouting department.
  • Jason La Canfora reports that the Colts will make a run at hiring Seahawks executive Ed Dodds.

Panthers

Panthers HC Ron Rivera mentioned that WR Kelvin Benjamin showed up to their offseason program overweight.

He is a little heavy. He knows it. We’ve talked about it. We talked about what he has to do, and he’s done a great job,” Rivera said Saturday, via the Charlotte Observer.

“Am I concerned? Yes, because he is heavy. I’m going to admit that right now,” Rivera added. “But is he working hard? Absolutely. He’s been there every day and done the things we’ve asked him to do, and it’s all strictly on a voluntary basis.”

According to Joe Person, Benjamin has played at 252 pounds, despite being listed by the Panthers as being 245 pounds.
