NFL Notes: Broncos, Browns, Cardinals, Cowboys, & Eagles,

Broncos

  • Thayer Evans reports that the Broncos have hired Tony Coaxum as their assistant special teams coach.

Browns

  • The Browns officially announced the hiring of Joker Phillips as the team’s wide receivers coach.

Cardinals

Cardinals president Michael Bidwill said that they aren’t counting on having ILB Daryl Washington next year and will do a better job adding depth before the start of the season.

“He’ll be facing the issue with the domestic violence and there has been no determination of what happens there,” Bidwill said, AzCardinals.com. “He was only suspended for the drug issue, so we want to make sure we understand what that (other punishment) is. Last year, we learned about his suspension after free agency. This year we are going to plan to make sure we address all the issues not knowing whether Daryl will be back for part of next season or all of next season. ‘Next man up’ is real but we have to make sure we’ve gone into free agency and addressed that situation.”

  • Kent Somers reports that the Cardinals were interested in former-Falcons HC Mike Smith regarding a senior defensive assistant, but that it “didn’t work out.”

Cowboys

Eagles

Eagles QB Nick Foles mentioned that he doesn’t much thought into some of the trade rumors that have said he could be dealt at some point in the next few months.

“I think you’re going to hear about them every single year,” Foles said on Thursday, via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “That’s just part of it. I think the main word is ‘rumor.’ It’s a rumor that you can’t put too much into it. I only listen to the people at the [Eagles] facility, being Chip [Kelly]. He’s the one that will make the decision.

Instead, Foles said that he plans on being back in Philadelphia next year.
