NFL Notes: Broncos, Buccaneers, Chargers, Patriots

Broncos

  • Troy Renck mentions that the expectation right now is that the Broncos will place OLB Shane Ray on injured reserve after he had two screws in left wrist removed last weekend.
  • Renck adds that putting Ray on injured reserve now would give him time to heal and prepare for the 2018 season.

Buccaneers

Buccaneers HC Dirk Koetter explained after Monday’s game that RB Doug Martin was a healthy inactive because he violated team rules.

“That was a violation of team rules and it’s done,” Koetter said, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “It’s done. That’s just one of those things that unfortunately has to happen from time to time. It’s behind us now, and that’s all I’m going to say about it.

Chargers

  • Chargers HC Anthony Lynn told reporters that LB Denzel Perryman (hamstring) will not play this week, but there’s a chance he could possibly return for their regular-season finale.
  • Lynn said he anticipates WR Keenan Allen (back) should be fine.
  • Chargers RB Austin Ekeler suffered a broken hand, but Lynn mentioned that could potentially play the rest of the season with a cast.
  • Lynn said that DL Corey Liuget (knee) probably will not play in Week 16’s game.
  • Chargers OTs Russell Okung (groin) and Joe Barksdale (knee) are both day to day.

Patriots

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Patriots RB Rex Burkhead was diagnosed with just a knee sprain after his MRI and the team is optimistic he’ll be back for the playoffs.
