NFL Notes: Cardinals, Chargers, Raiders

Cardinals

Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury mentioned that he’s confident veteran TE Charles Clay will produce this season despite being on the PUP list with a knee issue.

If you look at his body of work in his career and the way he’s been utilized, it made sense what he can do in our offense. We saw that this spring,” said Kingsbury, via Darren Urban

Chargers

Regarding Chargers TE Andrew Vollert‘s season-ending torn ACL, HC Anthony Lynn said the tight end was “playing pretty well” prior to his injury.

He was playing pretty well,” Lynn said, via Eric Williams of ESPN. “We’re going to miss him.”

  • Lynn said he “liked the energy” Chargers’ second-year DL Justin Jones brought in their preseason opener and noted that RB Justin Jackson and S Roderic Teamer also “stood out” against the Cardinals. (Eric Williams)
  • Nick Korte notes that the Cardinals’ decision to release DL Darius Philon will result in the Chargers losing a projected 2020 fourth-round compensatory back from losing WR Tyrell Williams and they now have no comp picks next year.

Raiders

Raiders WR Tyrell Williams said he is excited to play in Oakland for the 2019 season since his grandmother lived 15 minutes away from the team’s practice facility.

I have been out to Oakland a bunch of times visiting my grandmother’s house every summer,” Williams said, via Scott Bair of NBC Sports. “When I signed, I went driving by that house, which is 15 minutes away from the facility, and saw places where I used to play with my cousins. It just made me feel at home. I’m not from Oakland, but this place is familiar and important to me. It’s like a second home, and it will be so great to play in front of my family. It has been awesome.”
