Jets
- A personnel executive tells Rich Cimini that the Jets are โbetter offโ with Ryan Fitzpatrick as their starter than Geno Smith.
- People around the NFL also pointed out that none of the Jetsโ players came to Smithโs defense immediately after he suffered a broken jaw.
- According to Cimini, the Jets organization has โmixedโ feeling about former second-round TE Jace Amaro.
Cimini believes Amaro could be on the hot seat, but itโs not a given that the Jets look to move on from him so soon. - Cimini writes that the Jets are likely to keep four quarterbacks on their roster โ Fitzpatrick, Smith, Matt Flynn, and rookie Bryce Petty.
Patriots
Patriots S Devin McCourty said after Saturdayโs game that heโs hoping the move to cornerback isnโt permanent.
โI hope itโs not permanent,โ McCourty said, via CSNNE.com. โAs a player, thatโs out of your control.โ
McCourty wound up signing a new contract extension during the offseason that pays him as a safety, so this could be among his concerns regarding a move to corner.
โItโs the first time Iโve played corner in a game, I think, in like three years, so obviously itโs a lot of frustration but you just gotta play,โ McCourty said. โโฆIt didnโt feel great, and I donโt think it looked great so weโll see.โ
- Mike Reiss mentions that CB Malcolm Butler is locked into the starting job at left cornerback while Logan Ryan and Tarell Brown remain the top candidates to start on the right side.
- Reiss doesnโt see McCourty moving to cornerback full-time.
