NFL Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Packers, & Patriots

Cowboys

  • Todd Archer does not think the Cowboys will sign a free agent cornerback or pass rusher this season to help their pass defense.
  • Archer believes it would take a โ€œmiracleโ€ for second-round LB Jaylon Smith (knee) to play in the 2016 playoffs. Although there has been โ€œsome regenerationโ€ in his kneeโ€™s nerve, it has not been a significant recovery.

Eagles

Packers

  • Packers HC Mike McCarthy said he is โ€œvery optimisticโ€ that ILB Jake Ryan (ankle) will play in Monday nightโ€™s game. (Tom Silverstein)
  • McCarthy also said he is โ€œvery hopefulโ€ that CB Damarious Randall (groin) will be back this week. (Packer Report)

Patriots

  • Jeff Howe reports that DT Alan Branch, who is appealing his four-game suspension for violating the leagueโ€™s drug policy, is travelling with the team and will be eligible to play.
  • Howe also reports that DE Jabaal Sheard travelled with the team after being a healthy scratch last week due to performance reasons.
