NFL Notes: Cowboys, Jets, Packers, & Patriots

Cowboys

• According to Todd Archer, it’s unlikely that first-round CB Byron Jones will start at cornerback in Week 1.
• Jones could, however, see time in dime packages against tight ends and receivers in the slot.
• Archer mentions that he’s been surprised to see Morris Claiborne work in the first-team nickel defense.
• In the end, Archer expects DE Jeremy Mincey to show up to training camp, despite the fact that he’s currently holding out for a new deal.
• Archer expects Joseph Randle to be the lead back this year with Darren McFadden operating as his back up.

Jets

• According to Albert Breer, Jets second-round WR Devin Smith is likely to miss 4-6 weeks after sustaining broken ribs on Friday.
• Breer adds that this timetable leaves his status for Week 1 “iffy” at this point in time.

Packers

• Packers TE Andrew Quarless reported to training camp on Saturday after being away from the team due to a personal matter. (Aaron Nagler)
