NFL Notes: Drew Brees, Broncos, Buccaneers, Giants

Drew Brees

  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that every source he’s spoken to recently believes an extension between the Saints and QB Drew Brees is going to get done.
  • Rapoport says it’s hard to imagine the Saints paying more than they did for Brees last year as part of a new deal, but it’s possible they could increase his salary a bit.
  • If the Saints don’t have an agreement in place with Brees before the start of free agency, Rapoport points out that they would carry $18 million of dead money into free agency, so they’re going to want to get a deal in place over the next few days.

Broncos

  • Mike Klis reports that the Broncos have tendered exclusive rights free agent DL Shelby Harris a one-year deal worth $705,000 for the 2018 season.
  • According to Klis, the Broncos plan to tender offers to their other exclusive rights free agents early next week.

Buccaneers

  • The Buccaneers and WR Mike Evans reached an agreement on a massive five-year, $82.5 million extension on Friday.
  • With this in mind, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wonders if the Buccaneers could make WR DeSean Jackson available for trade after what was a largely a disappointing 2017 season.
  • Florio mentions that the Eagles could be a team that could make sense for Jackson now that they’ve traded deep threat Torrey Smith to the Panthers.
