NFL Notes: Protocols, Roster Size, Training Camp

Protocols

  • For any player, coach, or staff member to enter the building for training camp, he must test negative twice in a 72-hour period. Players will also have to self-quarantine between tests. (Ben Volin)
  • NFL players and team employees will have to complete a questionnaire before they are allowed to enter the team facility. (Dan Graziano)
  • Now that agreements on preseason games and daily testing have been reached, the NFLPA and NFL are focusing on opt-out clauses for at-risk players. There will likely be a payout available but it is unlikely to be a full salary. (Jeremy Fowler)

Roster Size

  • Tony Pauline reported a decision was expected by Tuesday morning as to the roster size at the start of training camp. It’s expected to be either 90 players or 80 players.
  • While no official announcement from the NFL came out, a few teams started making roster moves to cut down from 90 players.

Training Camp

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport outlines the league’s latest proposal for how training camp would be structured:

  • Testing and physicals for 5-6 days
  • Strength and conditioning and walk-throughs for another six days
  • Day 13 off
  • Helmets until Day 18
  • Day 19 Off
  • Day 20 pads.
