Reggie Wayne

New Patriots WR Reggie Wayne told reporters on Tuesday that there was a “lot of serious” interest in him from other teams.

Oh yeah, there were a lot of serious calls from some good teams,” Wayne said, per Mike Reiss. “Felt like this was the best place.

Reports from yesterday mentioned that the Packers may have had interest in Wayne, but Wayne obviously elected to sign a one-year deal with New England.

Broncos

  • According to Troy Renck, with Evan Mathiscontract fitting under the cap, the Broncos will not have to release any prominent players to make room for him.

Buccaneers

  • Buccaneers HC Lovie Smith announced that WR Mike Evans is likely to miss the remainder of the preseason to allow his hamstring injury to heal before the start of the season.
  • Rookie QB Jameis Winston suffered a sprained right ankle during Monday night’s game, but Smith expects him to start this weekend’s game against the Browns. (Rick Stroud)

Rams

  • 2015 sixth-round selection Bud Sasser, who was released by the Rams with an injury settlement back in June, has been hired as the teams’ external football affairs coordinator. (Adam Schefter)
