NFL Rumors: Browns No. 6 Pick Available?

In the last few days there have been a number rumors about teams that are considering moving down in the upcoming draft which would seem to make sense for specific teams. The latest team that could be looking to trade out of their current  position is the Cleveland Browns.

Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer was able get some comments from Browns president Mike Holmgren about the idea.

“I think we’re open to it this year,” Holmgren said at the NFL owners meetings. “We have a couple of [needs] I’d like to deal with, specifically. We’d move down for the same reason you’d always trade back.”

Cleveland is in a decent position because they have the No. 6 pick which could be coveted by other teams that are interested in specific players which allow the Browns to trade down a few picks and receive and extra selection either in the upcoming draft or a future pick. Many draft experts have the Browns taking either a wide receiver like A.J. Green or a defensive lineman such as Nick Fairley but there should be options at both positions around pick No. 10.

Teams that could be looking to trade up would include: the San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins.

  1. The browns need to trade down this year. They need the extra pick(s) especially with free agency put on hold at th current time. I like the idea of trading to 12 or even 14 and aquiring a second rounder(st. Louis may get worried and jump up for jones if green gets selected by cincy) I think cameron jordan is great pick here. Then in the second round the browns need to draft BA right tackle and DT. 3rd round- I like the receiver from abilene christian, Edmond Gates. He looked awesome at the combine and on tape. Great hands and FAST. I dont like the idea of drafting a WR any higher. Talent can be found late for cheap and I think this guy is it. Also grab a receiver in free agency when it starts.

    • Agreed. The Browns are in position to get a great value pick at No. 6 because of the likelihood that both Gabbert and Newton will be gone before Cleveland is on the clock but one player isn’t going to make them better than the Steelers and Ravens.

There will still be plenty of value picks in the first and second-rounds of the upcoming draft and the Browns should be ecstatic if they can get someone like Cameron Jordan or J.J. Watt while acquiring another selection.

I completely agree with you about taking a receiver in the middle-rounds. You could make a case for any of: Randall Cobb, Torrey Smith, Titus Young, Jonathan Baldwin, Leonard Hankerson, Edmund Gates.

Roster depth is what is going to get the Browns back into contention for the division.
