NFL Rumors: Denzel Ward, Quarterbacks, Draft

Denzel Ward

  • Ohio State CB Denzel Ward mentioned during an interview with Pro Football Talk that he visited with six teams during the pre-draft process including the Browns, Buccaneers, Bears, 49ers, Dolphins, and Bills.

Quarterbacks

  • Tom Pelissero reports that the Cardinals and Saints worked out Richmond QB Kyle Lauletta and Washington State QB Luke Falk
  • According to Pelissero, both quarterback prospects have had “about a dozen” private workouts, including Lauletta with the Cowboys, Lions, Bengals, and Eagles, and Falk with the Bills, Dolphins, and Buccaneers.

Draft

  • Albert Breer expects UTSA DE Marcus Davenport to be selected between No. 10 and No. 16 overall. According to Breer, some believe Davenport has a higher ceiling that Bradley Chubb.
  • Breer says that one of the strongest player/team connections he’s heard over the past two weeks is Virginia Tech LB Tremaine Edmunds to the 49ers.
  • Other teams believe the Cardinals could be a team to watch to trade up into the latter portion of the top 10 for a quarterback, but it’s unlikely they’ll move all the way to the top 3.
  • While Breer still expects Alabama WR Calvin Ridley to be the first receiver off the board, there are multiple teams who prefer Maryland’s D.J. Moore to Ridley.
  • Breer mentions that the Titans could be a team to watch to select a quarterback in the middle rounds of the draft, given that they currently have Blaine Gabbert as their primary backup to Marcus Mariota. Beyond that, Mariota has dealt with injuries in recent years, so it wouldn’t hurt to have a better backup option.
  • The NFL executive explained to Breer that after the first 19 players or so, there isn’t much difference between a late first-round pick and a late-seconder: “(Picks) 20 and 55 may wind up being the same. The guy in the last third of the first round, you might be paying a first-round premium on him and he’s no different than the guy at 35 to 40. And those guys in the last third of first round, top half of the second, they’re the same not only in ability but value of their role in the game.”
  • Breer has heard the Buccaneers, Chargers and Seahawks connected to FSU S Derwin James.
