Bob Glauber ofย New York Newsday tweets that the New York Giants DT Barry Cofield will consider asking for a trade if the unrestricted free agentย requirementsย remain at five years. Glauber mentions that he Cofield would rather request a trade rather than sign a one-year tender which is something that a lot of players in a similar situation will consider.
There has been some indications that the 2011 will continue under the same the rules as the 2010 season had which means that players will have to have accumulated six-years of service before they can become unrestricted free agents. This would eliminate a number of players from the 2011 Free Agent List.
The Giants actually had a deal worked out with the New Orleans Saints last year but Cofield turned down the trade because of the Saints contract offer. We have Cofield listed as the No. 20 best available free agent in out Top 50 NFL Free Agents list.
