NFL Rumors: Packers Extending Thompson & McCarthy?

Now that Ted Thompson‘s decision have proven to be right moves for the franchise, the Packers appear to be ready to rewards Thompson with a contract extension that should keep him in firm control of the team for the coming years.

Team President Mark Murphy said that he plans to contact Thompson in the near future regarding an extension.

“I deal with Ted and he deals with Mike.  I want both of them to be with the Green Bay Packers long-term,” Murphy told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Sunday night.

Once Thompson is re-signed it’s on to Packers head coach Mike McCarthy who’s in a similar situation as Thompson because they have the same number of years remaining on their contracts.

Both men have come under criticism at time, Thompson for the Favre situation and McCarthy’s coaching decisions, but the two of them have managed to assemble that has overcome every obstacles that stood in their way this year. The Packers true strength lies in their ability to develop players that can step in and instantly contribute. If you look at the list of players that have become huge players for the Packers it’s really shocking to see how many were undrafted free agents and recently cut by other teams.

Green Bay should add Dom Capers to the list of coaches that get an extension because he’s the other component that is responsible for the teams success.
