NFL Rumors: Packers, Redskins, Saints, & Seahawks

Packers

  • Packers HC Mike McCarthy said WR Jordy Nelson’s rehab from his torn ACL continues to go well, and mentioned that he’s been running and is ahead of schedule. (Rob Demovsky)
  • McCarthy added that he’s keeping the door open in regards to re-signing LS Brett Goode, who has been rehabbing at facilities since free agency began. (Weston Hodkiewicz)
  • McCarthy mentioned that he wants to attack the middle of the field more this year, whether it be with a tight end or a big receiver. (Rob Demovsky)

Redskins

  • Redskins HC Jay Gruden told reporters he believes QB Colt McCoycan be a starter in this league. I’m one of Colt’s biggest fans.” (Mary Kay Cabot)
  • Gruden said they plan to be cautious with OLB Junior Galette, who is coming off of an Achilles injury. Galette could be held out until mandatory minicamp or training camp. (Tarik El-Bashir)
  • Gruden mentioned that the door has not been shut on veteran S Dashon Goldson returning to Washington. (Tarik El-Bashir)
  • Gruden said of their safety depth: “Very concerned. … Depth at safety is a little challenging right now.” (Tarik El-Bashir)

Saints

  • Saints HC Sean Payton said an agreement with LB Craig Robertson is in the works, but they need to clear cap room to get the deal done. (Larry Holder)
  • Payton said their still discussing the possibility of re-signing RB Tim Hightower and added that he hopes to get it done. (Nick Underhill)
  • According to Payton, there are “quite a bit” of discussions going on between the Saints and QB Drew Brees regarding an extension. (Mike Wells)
  • Payton said he thinks they still need a pass rusher, but they can probably find one in draft. (Mike Triplett)
  • Beyond that, Payton said they could use a three-technique defensive tackle and a safety. (Mike Triplett)
  • Payton said they paid close attention to the guard market this, but it just didn’t pan out. (Larry Holder)
  • Payton told reporters that it’s still not out the question that they could match the Bears’ offer sheet for TE Josh Hill. Payton and GM Mickey Loomis plan to go over it more later on today. (Larry Holder)

Seahawks

  • Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said they’re still in “good shape” at left tackle, despite losing Russell Okung in free agency because they have Garry Gilliam. (Marc Sessler)
  • Carroll referred to Gilliam as a “tremendous prospect.”
  • Carroll said they “did everything” they could do with a player like Bruce Irvin: “We did everything you can do with a guy I think. I heard he said otherwise, but he did a lot of good stuff. ” (Bob Condotta)
  • Carroll mentioned that re-signing CB Jeremy Lane was critical to solidify the cornerback spot heading into draft. (Bob Condotta)
  • When asked about the reports that he has been talking to team about a new contract, Carroll smiled and said: “Yeah, I’m in great shape.” (Bob Condotta)
