Jim Thomas of theย St Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the St Louis Rams are close to reaching an agreement with WR Mark Clayton.
Late last night there were conflicting reports on whether or not teams would be able to continue negotiations with their players but Thomas believes that the Rams are allowed to continue negotiations until midnight tonight.
Clayton was productive for them until he went down with an injury in week five. Granted, his production was over a short period of time which isn’t a great indicator of his overall ability but the teams passing game was better with him than without.
Clayton will be 29 at the start of the 2011 season and considering that he’s a slot-receiver, it could make sense for the Rams to target a tall wideout during free agency. Maybe Mike Sims-Walker?
