Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith has been rumored to be on the trading block for over a year now but much of that was based on speculation rather than tangible evidence.
Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly reports that before the season ended, Smith had completely cleaned out his locker as well as the luxury suite that his family uses during the season.
ESPNโs Pat Yasinskas seeโs this as sign that Smith intends to be playing elsewhere come September. Yasinskas also discusses what it would take to get a deal done for Smith.
โIn the past, team officials have said theyโd be willing to trade Smith if he asks out, but theyโve also said they wonโt give him away. They likely will seek a second- or third-round draft pick in return,โ writes Yasinskas.
If this ends up being the case, the Panthers will have to take a long look at Georgia WR A.J. Green because theyโve had one of the worst receiving group even with Smith for the last few years.
