NFL Suspends Umpire Roy Ellison One Game For Cursing At OT Trent Williams

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the NFL has suspended umpire Roy Ellison one game without pay for “profane and derogatory” words directed to Redskins OT Trent Williams.

  • Rapoport mentions that Ellison will not work a game this weekend, but will be eligible to return in Week 13.
  • The NFL expects its officials to avoid personal confrontations, according to Rapoport.

Williams mentioned that Ellison had called him “garbage [expletive] disrespectful [expletive]” during last weekend’s game. Earlier this week, Williams told reporters that he didn’t expect the league to take action against Ellison, but apparently he underestimated the league in this regard.

Mike Pereira of Fox Sports mentioned earlier this week that Ellison had been accused of abusive language toward players in the past. Pereira added that he personally warned Ellison that action would be taken if it continued.
