Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that the Giants and S Landon Collins are not in โactive negotiationsโ on a long-term deal at this time.
Collins has come up as a potential franchise tag candidate to watch over the next few weeks.
Last month, Collins said he’s hoping they can get a long-term agreement in place this offseason and avoid him playing under the franchise tag
โWould I play on it? Iโve got no choice,” Collins said when asked about playing under the franchise tag, via NJ.com. “But itโs not a big concern of mine. I know what Iโm capable of. Hopefully we work something out before that. If not, franchise it is. Iโve just got to continue proving myself.โ
Collins, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Giants back in 2015. He is in the final year of his four-year, $6.12 million rookie contract that included $4.459 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $1,269,621 for the 2018 season.
In 2018, Collins appeared in 12 games for the Giants and recorded 96 tackles, a forced fumble and four pass defenses.
We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.

Until the GMEN move on from Beckham, Vernon, Jenkins and hopefully Solder. The Collins contract situation will stay in limbo. It’s really not fare to Collins that he has to wait. Because! Collins numbers with the GMEN speaks for itself! Coupled with the FACT that Collins hasn’t really played an entire season near the line of scrimmage (Collins natural and most productive spot) due to the lack of secondary support.
The GMEN need a FS to compliment Collins this offseason. My choices would be Tyrann Mathieu or Ha-Ha Clinton Dix. And with the 6th pick of the Draft take LSUs LB White or consider trading down.
Honestly! The GMEN should trade down and get more draft assets. There are edge rushers and dlinemen galore in the upcoming Draft. The GMEN need to get this rebuild done as quickly as possible.
