According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Buccaneers and QB Jameis Winston have had no conversations, discussions or negotiations about a new deal following the 2019 season.
2019 is the final year of Winston’s rookie contract but the former No. 1 overall pick hasn’t equivocally proven he deserves a long-term contract extension.
Winston has been the definition of a rollercoaster player, throwing 31 touchdown passes to go with a league-leading 28 interceptions. Still, Tampa Bay is expected to keep Winston on some kind of short-term deal.
Winston, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2015. He’s set to make a base salary of $20.922 million for the 2019 season under his fifth-year option.
Winston is in line to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career in 2020.
In 2019, Winston has appeared in 15 games for the Buccaneers and completed 61 percent of his passes for 4,908 yards, 31 touchdowns and 28 interceptions while rushing for 245 yards and one touchdown.
We have him featured in our Top 50 – 2020 Free Agents list.
