No Deadline Set For Talks Between Falcons & Julio Jones, Could Get Less Than $14M Per Year

Albert Breer reports that the Falcons and WR Julio Jones do not have a deadline in place to reach an agreement on a long-term extension.

  • According to Breer, this is likely a good sign regarding the tenor of the talks between the two parties.
  • In the end, Breer expects Jones to walk away with less than $14 million per year with this contract.

Assuming Breer is right about Jones ultimately securing less than $14 million annually, his contract could end up being more in line with the new extension signed by Colts T.Y. Hilton, who got a five-year extension worth $65 million with $39 million guaranteed.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank recently told Gil Brandt of NFL Media that he’s “very confident” they will have a five-year contract extension in place with Jones “very, very soon.”

Jones, 26, finished out his four-year, $16.183 million rookie contract, but the Falcons protected themselves by picking up his fifth-year option that will pay him a non-guaranteed salary of $10.176 million for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Jones caught 104 passes for 1,593 yards receiving and six touchdowns over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 receiver out of 110 qualifying players this past season.

We’ll have more regarding Jones and the Falcons as the news is available.
