No Offers Yet For Jaguars DE Yannick Ngakoue

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reports that while the Jaguars have had trade talks regarding DE Yannick Ngakoue, Jacksonville has not yet received any offers.

  • Pelissero adds if Jacksonville wants to move Ngakoue before this weekend’s draft, they’re running short on time to work out the details given Ngakoue also wants a new contract.
  • Getting a physical for Ngakoue in the current climate in order to finalize the deal by Thursday or Friday would also be challenging, per Pelissero.
  • Mike Florio, citing a league source, reports that multiple teams had been under the impression that the Jaguars weren’t inclined to trade Ngakoue at all.

For his part, Ngakoue remains resolute in his desire for a fresh start outside of the Jaguars organization.

Ngakoue also had the following exchange with Jaguars co-owner Tony Khan on Twitter:

Jacksonville is reportedly asking for at least a first-round pick to move on from Ngakoue. While they’ve fielded interest from some teams, they have made it clear they don’t intend to give him away.

Combined with Ngakoue’s desire for a new deal, that makes trade discussions a little more complex.

The Jaguars officially used their franchise tag on Ngakoue, which will cost around $17.9 million fully guaranteed for the 2020 season. However, Ngakoue has yet to sign the tender.

The Seahawks and Eagles have come up in the pat as potential trade partners with Jacksonville.

Ngakoue, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3.48 million contract and made a base salary of $834,269 for the 2019 season.

In 2019, Ngakoue appeared in 15 games for the Jaguars and recorded 41 tackles, eight sacks, an interception, a defensive touchdown, four forced fumbles, a recovery and six passes defended. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 edge rusher out of 107 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Ngakoue as the news is available.
