Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, but his baseball agent, Scott Boras, tells Ian Rapoport that he won’t pursue an NFL career.
“Kyler has agreed and the A’s agreed to a baseball contract that gave him permission to play college football through the end of the collegiate season,” Boras said. “After that, he is under contract to play baseball. That is not a determination to make. It’s already done.”
The A’s drafted Murray with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft and agreed to a $4.66 million contract.
Murray has raised the possibility of being a two-sport player, but admits that he isn’t sure how possible that is.
“I’d like to do both, if possible,” Murray said. “But I don’t know how possible that is.”
Meanwhile, Boras tells Rapoport: “From a contractual perspective, it is set.”
Several NFL scouts have told Rapoport that Murray would likely be a day two draft pick and possibly end up as a second- or third-round pick.
During this three-year college career at Texans A&M and Oklahoma, Murray completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 5,098 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,369 and 12 touchdowns over the course of 28 games.
We’ll have more regarding Murray as the news is available.
