Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Packers have claimed OT Jared Veldheer off of waivers from the Patriots.
Packers RT Bryan Bulaga is dealing with a knee injury, so they’re clearly looking to bolster their tackle depth should Bulaga miss time.
Veldheer signed with the Patriots in free agency this offseason before retiring from the league in May.
Veldheer, 31, is a former third-round pick of the Raiders back in 2010. After four years in Oakland, Veldheer signed a five-year, $35 million contract that included $10.5 million guaranteed with the Cardinals in March of 2014.
The Cardinals traded Veldheer to the Broncos in exchange for a sixth-round pick. Veldheer made a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2018 season. The Patriots later signed him to a one-year, $6.5 million this past offseason.
In 2018, Veldheer started 12 games for the Broncos and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 58 offensive tackle out of 80 qualifying players.
