Packers Hoping To Deal Nick Barnett?

Dam Pompei of the National Football Post writes that the Green Bay Packers “are all ears when it comes to talking about trading Nick Barnett.” The Packers will be sitting just barely under the salary cap when the CBA is in place so moving Barnett would give them a little over $4 million in cap room.

Pompei mentions that the Packers could keep Barnett into the part of the preseason should they not find a trade partner.

Since they already have A.J. Hawk and Desmond Bishop locked up, there really isn’t much room for him on their current roster. Then again the Packers depth was what got them to their fourth Super Bowl win.

The free agent market for middle linebackers isn’t exactly loaded with talent so Green Bay should be able to find some interest in solid veteran option. I still wouldn’t expect them to give Barnett away so he could also be released depending on how things play during the fast paced offense that we are about to experience.
