Packers Parting Ways With DBs Coach Darren Perry

Green Bay Packers HC Mike McCarthy announced Monday that secondary/safeties coach Darren Perry will pursue other opportunities.

“I want to thank Darren and his wife Errika for their dedication to the Packers over the last nine years,” McCarthy added. “We wish Darren and his family all the best moving forward.

Tom Silverstein reports that McCarthy wanted Perry back but he gave Jason Simmons the title of secondary coach, which means he would be in charge of both CBs and safeties.

McCarthy said last week that they were still waiting to see if Perry would remain with the team under new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. However, it appears as though they determined it was best for Perry to seek an opportunity elsewhere.

Perry has come up as a speculative option for the Titans, so that could be something to keep an eye on in the coming days. Perry also found some interest from the Texans.

Perry, 49, is a former eighth-round pick of the Steelers back in 1992. He played eight seasons for the Steelers, Chargers, Ravens and Saints.

Perry began his NFL coaching career with the Bengals back in 2002 as their safeties coach. He spent a few years with the Steelers and Raiders before the Packers hired him as their safeties coach in 2009.
