Packers Will Not Move Charles Woodson To Safety

The Packers are expected to keep CB Charles Woodson at cornerback next season instead of moving him to the safety position.

โ€œThe closer Charles is to the ball the more dangerous he is and more impact he has to the offense,โ€ said head coach Mike McCarthy, per Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel . โ€œHeโ€™s the most instinctive defensive player Iโ€™ve ever been around.โ€

The idea has been floated for some time now that Woodson eventually make the transition to playing safety full-time but thereโ€™s no question that heโ€™s still capable of making big plays for the offense. McGinn mentions that Woodson didnโ€™t allow a single play over 20 yards during the second-half of the season. Nick Collins health will have a big impact on the teamโ€™s secondary next season but the Packers intend to have Woodson back in the slot.
