Panthers & Graham Gano Negotiating Extension, CAR Prepared To Franchise Him If Needed

Ian Rapoport reports that the Panthers and K Graham Gano are currently negotiating a long-term extension, but if they’re unable to get an agreement in place before tomorrow, Carolina will franchise him.

Dan Duggan of NJ.com recently reported that the Giants are expected to pursue Gano at the start of free agency if he ends up being available. The Giants have obvious ties to Gano, considering that he played for the Panthers while Dave Gettleman was the team’s GM.

In order for the Panthers to franchise Gano, they would have to be willing to pay him around $4,835,000 fully guaranteed for the 2018 season.

Gano, 30, played out the final year of his four-year, $12.4 million contract that included $3.95 million guaranteed and is now in position to be unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2017, Gano converted 29 of 30 field goal attempts (96.7 percent) to go along with 34 of 37 extra point tries and 70 touchbacks.
