Panthers Interviewing Texans Exec. Jimmy Raye III For GM Job Thursday

The Carolina Panthers announced that they’re interviewing Texans assistant GM Jimmy Raye III for their GM position on Thursday.

The Panthers are also scheduled to interview Bills assistant college scouting director Lake Dawson Friday and Panthers interim GM Marty Hurney will interview at some point this week.

Carolina has yet to request permission from the Titans to interview Ryan Cowden for the position, but he’s believed to be a potential candidate for the job.

Recent reports have said that while the Panthers are conducting a GM search, Hurney is the favorite for the job, which would make sense, considering that the team is about to be sold and any major changes likely wouldn’t happen until after there was a new owner in place.

Raye III, 49, coached one season for the Chiefs as their offensive quality control coach in 1995. He later was hired by the Chargers as a scout and worked his way up to director of player personnel in 2008.

Raye III spent five years in that role before the Colts hired him as their VP of football operations in 2013.

After four years in Indianapolis, Raye took over as the VP of player personnel/assistant general manager with the Texans.

We’ll have more regarding the Panthers’ GM search as the news is available.
