Panthers Place CB Ross Cockrell On IR, Claim OT Adam Bisnowaty

The Carolina Panthers announced Wednesday that they’ve placed CB Ross Cockrell on injured reserve and claimed OT Adam Bisnowaty off of waivers from the Lions, per Jourdan Rodrigue.

This move was expected, seeing as Cockrell suffered a broken leg during Monday’s practice.

Cockrell, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Bills back in 2014. He lasted just over a year in Buffalo before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season.

The Steelers signed him to a contract just a week later and elected to bring him back on a one-year, $1.797 million restricted contract for the 2016 season. Pittsburgh later traded Cockrell to the Giants for a 2018 seventh-round pick.

Cockrell wound up signing a two-year, $6.8M deal with the Panthers this past March.

In 2017, Cockrell appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and recorded 50 tackles, three interceptions, and 11 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 39 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.

Bisnowaty, 24, was taken in the sixth-round of this year’s draft by the Giants. He signed four-year, $2.54 million contract that included a $146,548 signing bonus but was waived coming out of the preseason last year.

The Giants later signed him to their practice squad at the start of the regular season before eventually calling him up in December. New York waived him back in May and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Lions, but was cut loose on Tuesday.

During his college career at Pittsburgh, Bisnowaty started 43 games and was a first-team All-ACC as a junior and senior.

In 2017, Bisnowaty appeared in one game for the Giants.
