Cam Newton Has Two Transverse Fractures In Lower Back

The Carolina Panthers announced that further testingย revealed that QB Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back, but no further internal injuries.

  • Team spokesman Charlie Dayton said that it’s unclear if Newton will play Sunday, per Steve Reed.
  • Former team physician David Chao mentions that aย transverse fracture is “good news” as it’s notย dangerousย and is considered to be aย short-term injury.

Trey Wingo of ESPN points out that Cowboys QB Tony Romo suffered the same injury after he took a hit to back during their game against the Redskins earlier this season.ย Romo wound up missing the following week’s game against the Cardinals due to the injury.

We’ll have to see if he’s able to practice this week and play in their Week 15 matchup against the Buccaneers.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that preliminary testing indicates that Panthers QBย Cam Newton did not suffer anyย fractures orย other serious injuries.

  • Werder adds that Newton is still being evaluated, but likely for justย scrapes and bruises.

Sources tell Theย Charlotte Observer that Newton hasย no injuries andย didn’t want to be transported to the hospital, but the decision as a precautionary measure.

Cam Newton is conscious and was even smiling following the car crash in Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers announced that they are monitoring the situation involving Newton and will provide updates at theย  appropriate time.

According toย The Charlotte Observer,ย Panthers QB Cam Newton wasย injured in a carย wreck that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

  • Jonathan Jones reports that anย officer confirmed that Newton was driving the truck and was able to communicate as he was taken away in an ambulance.

Newton was put on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital. As of now, there is no information regarding Newton’s condition or whether he suffered an serious injuries.
