Panthers Replacing STs Coordinator Thomas McGaughey With Chase Blackburn

Alex Marvez of the Sporting News reports that the Panthers have promoted assistant special teams coach Chase Blackburn to coordinator on Thursday.

Joe Person confirms that the Panthers have fired special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey and are promoting Blackburn as his replacement.

McGaughey was the Panthers’ assistant special teams coach before he replaced Bruce DeHaven as their special teams coordinator six months later.

Blackburn, 34, played 10 years in the NFL with the Giants and Panthers. Carolina elected to hire him as their assistant special teams coach in 2016.

According to Football Outsiders, the Panthers were the No. 6 special teams unit in 2017.
