Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette tweets that Ron Rivera has announced that Cam Newton will be the teams starting quarterback for the 2011 season.
No real surprise here as the job was his to lose. Newton threw his first touchdown pass even though it won’t go down in the stat book as being so. The fact that it against the Steelers helps as well but it hard’s to give a guy a lot of credit for looking good in the teams fourth preseason game. At the very least, Newton will be an interesting topic of discussion throughout the season.
