Panthers Waive CB Antoine Cason & LB Jason Williams

Update:

The Carolina Panthers officially announced Tuesday that they have waived CB Antoine Cason and LB Jason Williams.

  • The Panthers also promoted CB Carrington Byndom and LB Horace Miller from the practice squad to their active roster.

Williams, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys, who was later claimed off of waivers by the Panthers. He re-signed with Carolina back in March, but has played a limited role in 2014. While he’s been active for 11 games this season, he has recorded just four tackles.

Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the Panthers are placing CB Antoine Cason on waivers Monday.

Cason, 28, signed a one-year contract worth $795,000 with the Panthers back in March, but was some talk that he could be headed to the bench, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Carolina has elected to move on.

The Panthers will likely turn to Bene Benwikere and Josh Norman for the remainder of the season.

This season, Cason has appeared in 12 games and recorded 58 tackles, two interceptions, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Pro Football Focus has Cason rated as the No. 111 player out of 117 qualifying players.
