Panthers Waive TE Desean Smith, Sign TE Wyatt Houston

The Carolina Panthers announced Wednesday that they’ve waived TE Desean Smith with a settlement and signed TE Wyatt Houston to a contract.

Smith wound up going undrafted out of LSU a few weeks ago before securing a tryout with the Panthers earlier this month and he was signed to a contract following the session.

During his four-year college career at LSU, Smith caught 19 passes for 325 yards receiving (17.1 YPR) to go along with one touchdown over the course of 12 games.

Houston wound up going undrafted out oof Utah State following this year’s draft but managed to sign on with the Chiefs a few days later. Unfortunately, Kansas City cut him loose after three days.

During his college career at Utah State, Houston caught 87 passes for 934 yards receiving and nine touchdowns over the course of four years and 37 games.
