Pat Fitzgerald’s Agent Says He Won’t Be Candidate For NFL Jobs

Tom Silverstein reports that despite inquiries from a number of NFL teams, Northwestern HC Pat Fitzgerald will not be a candidate for any NFL openings including the Packers.

This is according to Fitzgerald’s agent, Bryan Harlan.

The Packers had reached out to Fitzgerald and were said to have serious interest in hiring him as their head coach. However, some wondered whether Fitzgerald would seriously consider leaving his alma mater, even with the ties to Packers president Mark Murphy.

Fitzgerald said after the Holiday Bowl that he is “not going anywhere.”

“Hashtag Go Cats, man. This is home. I’m not going anywhere. This is home forever,” Fitzgerald said, per Mike Garafolo.

Fitzgerald, 44, was hired as a defensive backs coach for Northwestern back in 2001 and he eventually worked his way up to head coach in 2006. During his 13 years as the Wildcats’ head coach, Fitzgerald has led the team to a record of 95-70 (57.6 percent), which includes eight bowl game appearances.
