Pat Shurmur “Fully Expects” Eli Manning To Return In 2019

Giants HC Pat Shurmur told reporters at the Combine on Wednesday that he “fully expects” Eli Manning to return in 2019, per Jordan Raanan.

I think Eli has proven he can win games,” Shurmur said, per Mike Jones. “So yes, I want Eli back here.

Reports have said for a few months now that Manning was likely to return as the team’s quarterback for the 2019 season, but could be paired with a young prospect.

Manning has one year remaining on his contract and stands to make a base salary of $11.5 million to go along with a $5 million roster bonus due in March. He’ll carry a cap figure of $23 million, which is pretty high for the kind of play they got from him this season.

Manning, 38, is a former first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2004. He was traded to the Giants during the draft and has spent all 14 years of his career in New York.

Manning is entering the final year of his five-year, $101.5 million contract that included $65 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $11.5 million for the 2019 season.

In 2018, Manning appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and completed 66 percent of his passes for 4,299 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding Manning’s future with the Giants as the news is available.

  1. This is NOT NEW news! Just the venue from where Putz Shurmur is telling his tale to The Media is NEW.

I’ve been saying Manning will return since the 2018 season ended. Also! Don’t be surprised when Mara and Gettleman hand Manning a brand new deal (2-3yrs) before OTAs begin in a couple of months.

Remember! The Maras wanted change at the QB position leading up to the 2018 NFL DRAFT. The change process actually started in 2017 when Elisha was benched under the previous regime of GM Jerry Reese and HC Ben McAdope. Mara wanted one of the QBs in the 2018 draft, the Mara pendulum was leaning towards USCs Sam Darnold.

BUT! The Maras caught “heat” from deep pocketed and die hard GMEN FANS, wanting a fare send off for Elisha Manning. Thus! Creating “The GMEN Implosion of 2017-18”. A new regime was brought in with GM Dave Gettleman and HC Putz Shurmur and the drafting of a RB in 2018. With the 16 game 2018 season resulting in more of the same LOSING.

In 2019 there will be more of the same and that is LOSING. Because! When CHANGE is being preached by the new regime and the one constant issue is the QB position. The end result will always be the same as previous years.
