According to Dianna Russini, the Patriots have been told the current plan is to fly out tomorrow to play their scheduled Week 4 game against the Chiefs on Monday night.
According to Albert Breer, the team plans to fly to Kansas City on Monday morning. That would allow for the team to get the results back from Sunday’s tests to confirm no more positives before boarding the plane.
Jeff Howe says New England already passed the point of care tests on Sunday with no additional positives. Kansas City also received no positives from Sunday’s point of care testing, per Ian Rapoport.
All of New England’s tests came back negative on Saturday after starting QB Cam Newton tested positive and was placed on the COVID-19 list. Rapoport says the Chiefs also received no more positive test results Saturday after practice squad QB Jordan Ta’amu tested positive.
Assuming there are no more positive tests in the next 24 hours or so, this is a good sign for the two teams being able to play the game despite New England being without its starting quarterback.
While Tuesday was also an option, Breer notes Kansas City’s Thursday night game against the Bills next week was a factor that led to Monday being the preference, as that would have meant three games in nine days for the Chiefs.
Kickoff appears to be set for 7 pm ET, per Russini, and the game will still be broadcast on CBS.
Weโll have more regarding the Chiefs vs. Patriots game as the news is available.
