Patriots Expected To Pursue TE Eric Ebron In Free Agency

According to Evan Lazar, the Patriots are planning to make a run at Colts TE Eric Ebron when free agency opens.

Ebron is slated to become a free agent this offseason and the Colts have indicated they won’t bring him back. He finished the season on injured reserve with an ankle injury that he says he played through the entire season.

At the time, the Colts appeared to be caught off guard by Ebron’s decision to shut it down for the 2019 season. Combined with his decreased production, that likely led to the team’s decision to move on.

Ebron, 26, was taken with the No. 10 overall pick by the Lions back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $12.249 million rookie contract and made a base salary of $1,590,337 for the 2017 season.

The Lions elected to pick up his fifth-year option, which would have cost them around $8,250,000 for the 2018 season. However, the Lions released Ebron before the season and he signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Colts.

In 2019, Ebron appeared in 11 games for the Colts and caught 31 passes for 375 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

We have Ebron listed in our Top 50 2020 Free Agents list.
