Patriots G Joe Thuney Expected To Test Free Agency

According to Matt Verderame, the Patriots are not expected to re-sign G Joe Thuney before the start of unrestricted free agency.

Despite being slated to have more than $40 million in projected cap space, Verderame says New England is expected to focus their energies on retaining a number of other free agents, like QB Tom Brady and S Devin McCourty

Thuney has been a reliable starter for years at multiple positions for the Patriots and should cash in with a major contract from another team on the open market as one of the best offensive linemen available.

Thuney, 27, was drafted by the Patriots in the third round out of N.C. State in 2016. He signed a four-year, $3.538 million rookie deal and made a base salary of $720,000 for the 2019 season.

In 2019, Thuney started all 16 games for the Patriots. He was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 5 guard out of 80 qualifying players.

We have Thuney listed on our Top 50 2020 Free Agents list.
