Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Patriots have been seeking a potential trade partner for WR Malcolm Mitchell.

  • According to Pelissero, Mitchell could be the odd-man-out in New England, even with Julian Edelman being suspended for the first four games of the season.
  • Ian Rapoport adds that the Patriots are high on veteran WR Kenny Britt, which is part of the reason why Mitchell is available for trade.

Mitchell, 25, was taken in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He signed a four-year, $2.917 million contract that included a $577,992 signing bonus with the Patriots and stands to make base salaries of $630,000 and $720,000 over the next two years.

The Patriots placed Mitchell on injured reserve at the start of the regular season last year before designating him to return. However, New England declined to activate him from the list, which subsequently ended his 2017 season.

In 2016, Mitchell appeared in 14 games for the Patriots and caught 32 passes for 401 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
