Patriots Worked Out Veteran RB Steven Jackson, “Nothing Imminent”

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that there’s “nothing imminent” between the Patriots and veteran RB Steven Jackson, who worked out for the team on Wednesday.

  • According to Rapoport, the Patriots appear to be set at the running back position for the time being.

According Ed Werder of ESPN, the Patriots are meeting with free agent RB Steven Jackson on Tuesday.

  • A source tells Josina Anderson that the two sides are getting a “feel for each other” and there’s just “preliminary interest” as of now.
  • Anderson’s source added that Jackson “wants to play for a playoff contender and he and Bill Belichick have a mutual admiration.”

Werder adds that there’s “mutual interest” between the two parties and points out that Jackson previously played for Patriots OC Josh McDaniels in St. Louis.

Of course, the Patriots just lost LeGarrette Blount to hip injury, so Jackson obviously fits that mold of running back

Jackson, 32, has been a free agent for several months now without finding any reported interest, so this does come as a bit of a surprise.

In 2014, Jackson appeared in 15 games for the Falcons and ran for 707 yards on 190 carries (3.7 YPC) to go alogn with six touchdowns.
