Patriots Release TE Rob Housler With Failed Physical Designation

The New England Patriots officially released veteran TE Rob Housler with a failed physical designation on Wednesday.

Housler, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals who played out his rookie contract with the team. The Browns wound up signing him to a one-year, $1.76 million contract back in April of last year, but Cleveland wound up waiving him from their injured reserve.

The Bears later signed him to a contract and decided to extend him for another year in March. Unfortunately, Chicago elected to release him in September.

Housler signed a future/reserve contract with the Patriots this past January.

In 2015, Housler appeared in 10 games for the Bears and caught four passes for 33 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
