Patriots Releasing Veteran TE Dwayne Allen

Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots have informed TE Dwayne Allen they are releasing him.

However, the Patriots have expressed an interest in re-signing him for less money.

Allen, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Colts back in 2012. He signed a four-year, $29.4 million contract that included $16 million with the Colts in 2016 before he was traded to the Patriots for the 2017 season.

Allen was set to make a base salary of $6.4 million for the 2019 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Allen will free up $7,306,250 of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2018, Allen appeared in 13 games for the Patriots and caught just three passes for 27 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
