Patriots Waive FB Glenn Gronkowski From Practice Squad, Sign LB Trevor Bates

Doug Kyed of NESN reports that the Patriots have waived FB Glenn Gronkowski from their practice squad and signed LB Trevor Bates to the unit.

The Patriots’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. G Chris Barker
  2. WR Devin Lucien
  3. WR DeAndrew White
  4. WR Shaq Evans
  5. LB Trevor Bates
  6. G Jamil Douglas
  7. S Shamiel Gary
  8. DT Anthony Johnson
  9. G Chase Farris
  10. TE Austin Traylor

Gronkowski, 23, wound up signing on with the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State back in May. He managed to make the 53-man roster a few weeks ago, but will not have to pass through waivers before signing on with a team of his choosing.

Gronkowski signed a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Bills but was waived a month ago. He’s been on and off of the Patriots’ practice squad this year.

During his three-year college career, Gronkowski totaled 51 rushing yards on 16 carries (3.2 YPC) to go along with 15 receptions for 369 yards receiving and six total touchdowns.

Bates, 23, was taken in the seventh round of this year’s NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $2.412 million contract with the Colts and was set to make a base salary of $450,000 for the 2016 season but he was unfortunately cut loose coming out of the preseason.

The Colts signed him to their practice squad before calling him up a few weeks ago. Bates was cut loose soon after.

During his college career, Bates appeared in 46 games and recorded 207 tackles, 19 sacks, 10 passes defenses, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns.
