Patriots WR Wes Welker Expected To Be Franchised By Monday

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston writes that the Patriots are still expected to franchise WR Wes Welker before Monday’s deadline.

Reiss mentions that Patriots could be holding off on using the tag to prevent the move being seen as a”hard ball type of message (to) a player who has done everything it has asked of him.”

The Pat’s would have to pay Welker a guaranteed salary of $9.4 million for the 2012 season but Reiss adds that Welker may hold off on signing the tender as an attempt to apply pressure to the current contract negotiations.
